The success of the movie NANA, starring Nakashima Mika and Miyazaki Aoi as two girls with the same name but contrasting personalities, has paved the way for its sequel. Nakashima, who received best newcomer awards and a best actress nomination for NANA, reprises her role for NANA 2, alongside a new line-up of young stars. Ichikawa Yui (Ju-on) replaces Miyazaki Aoi as the cute and cheerful lead, while Matsuda Ryuhei's band leader role is now taken up by Kyo Nobuo. Adapted from the hugely popular manga by Yazawa Ai and directed by Otani Kentaro, NANA 2 continues to move the audience with a story about two girls' friendship, and their quest for love and dreams.
