Wikipedia defines link bait as any content or feature within a website that somehow baits viewers to place links to it from other websites. Matt Cutts, on the other hand, defines link bait as anything "... interesting enough to catch people's attention." Typically, users on bulletin boards, newsgroups, social networking websites, or blogs place a link to a website in some copy that further encourages another member or visitor to click. It can be an extremely powerful form of marketing as it is viral in nature. In search engine optimization, linkbaiting is important becase the quantity and quality of inbound links are two of the many metrics used by a search engine ranking algorithm to rank a website. It is considered to be a white hat optimization method almost universally. Good thing there are link directories such as http://www.1linkdirectory.com/ that offers link submission to help improve your website’s traffic and page rank. 1linkdirectory.com offer regular permanent submission for just $9.99 and one year sponsored listing for $19.99. If you can’t afford to submit your link, you can try linkbaiting for yourself like what I did in my previous linkbaiting experiment entitled “My First Baguio Experience.” Post an article in your blog, place a link on words you want, and submit it to search engines. Once the search engine robots located the link in your article, it will follow the link and it will be indexed in their listing. However, I am not sure if my suggestion will increase the traffic and elevate the page rank of your link. That is why submitting your link directly to link directories such as http://www.1linkdirectory.com/ is important if you want high traffic and PR.
